Upper Amherst Cove is in the Bonavista District with the nearest post office as far back as 1864, in Trinity. It became a village in 1968. Upper Amherst Cove is located 15 minutes (driving) outside of Bonavista, off of Highway Route 235. Today, approximately 35 people live in this coastal village, which is known for its beautiful scenery and whale-watching. This is also the home of Paterson's Woodworking.
