Undaunted Courage (ISBN 0684811073), written by Stephen Ambrose, is a 1996 biography of Meriwether Lewis and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The book is based on the journals written by Lewis and Clark, along with the other men, but also offers additional insight into the two travelers and their thoughts. The book tells all about the expedition, from their encounters with Indians and animals to what their diet was at a particular time. It gives a brief biography on each of the main characters in the expedition (Lewis, Clark, Sacagawea, etc.) Stephen Ambrose has a detailed account of almost all the trading that went on between the American Indians and the expedition. The book always gives interesting facts about the minority in the expedition as well (especially York and Sacagawea). The book is also has many accurate maps showing his route at different levels of detail. The book includes illustrations drawn by Lewis himself, of different animals and plants. The book also includes some "dialogues" of Lewis's writings, showing the reader Lewis's poor spelling habits.
