Ulric Dahlgren (April 3, 1842 – March 2, 1864) was the son of United States Admiral John A. Dahlgren. He is best known for his involvement, as a Union Army colonel, in an unsuccessful 1864 raid on the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, during the American Civil War. He was killed in the raid. Papers found on the body of Dahlgren shortly after his death, contained orders for an assassination plot against Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The discovery and publication of the Dahlgren Papers sparked an International controversy, and may have contributed to John Wilkes Booth's decision to assassinate U.S. President Abraham Lincoln one year later.
