Ulanqab (Mongolian: Ulaantsav; Chinese: 乌兰察布; Pinyin: Wūlánchábù) is a prefecture-level city in Inner Mongolia, China. Its administrative centre is in Jining District, which was formerly a county-level city. It was founded on December 1st, 2003, from Ulanqab league. Ulanqab city has an area of 54,491 km². It borders Hohhot to the west, Mongolia to the north, Xilin Gol League to the northeast, Hebei to the east and Shanxi to the south. At the end of 2004, Ulanqab had 2.7 million inhabitants.

Administrative subdivisions

Ulanqab has eleven administrative divisions: one district, one county-level city, five counties and four banners:

  • Jining District (集宁区 - Jíníng Qū) 114 km², 260,000 inhabitants (2004), Ulanqab's administrative center;
  • Fengzhen City (丰镇市 - Fēngzhèn Shì), 2,703 km², 310,000 inhabitants (2004).
  • Zhuozi County (卓资县 - Zhuózī Xiàn), 3,119 km², 230,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Zhuozishan (卓资山镇);
  • Huade County (化德县 - Huàdé Xiàn), 2,527 km², 160,000 inhabitants, administrative center: Changshun (长顺镇);
  • Shangdu County (商都县 - Shāngdū Xiàn), 4,304 km², 330,000 inhabitants, administrative center: Shangdu (商都镇);
  • Xinghe County (兴和县 - Xīnghé Xiàn), 3,520 km², 300,000 inhabitants, administrative center: Chengguan (城关镇);
  • Liangcheng County (凉城县 - Liángchéng Xiàn), 3,451 km², 230,000 inhabitants, administrative center: Daihai (岱海镇);
  • Chahar Right Front Banner (察哈尔右翼前旗 - Cháhā'ěr Yòuyì Qián Qí), 2,734 km², 260,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Tugin Ul (土贵乌拉镇);
  • Chahar Right Middle Banner (察哈尔右翼中旗 - Cháhā'ěr Yòuyì Zhõng Qí), 4,200 km², 210,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Hobor (科布尔镇);
  • Chahar Right Back Banner (察哈尔右翼后旗 - Cháhā'ěr Yòuyì Hòu Qí) 3,803 km², 210,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Bayan Qagan (白音察干镇);
  • Siziwang Banner (四子王旗 - Sìzǐwáng Qí), 24,016 km², 200,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Ulan Hua (乌兰花镇);
