USS Antrim (FFG-20), twelfth ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided-missile frigates, was named for Rear Admiral Richard Nott Antrim (1907–1969). Ordered from Todd Pacific, Seattle, WA on 28 February 1977 as part of the FY77 program, Antrim was laid down on 21 June 1978, launched on 27 March 1979, and commissioned on 26 September 1981.

TCG Gemlik (F 492)

Decommissioned on 8 May 1996, she was transferred to Turkey on 27 August 1997 as that nation's TCG Gemlik (F 492). She was stricken on 4 September 1997.

Previous vessels named Antrim

Antrim (FFG-20) was the second ship of that name in the US Navy. The first was named for a lakeshore county in northwestern Michigan. The first Antrim, (AK-159) was laid down 18 April 1944 at Richmond, Calif., launched on 17 July 1944 and, after her delivery to and acceptance by the Navy on 31 October 1944, was commissioned the same day. Operating under the aegis of Service Squadron 9 through the end of the war with Japan, the vessel carried cargo between Manus, in the Admiralty Islands, and Philippine ports. Ultimately, Antrim was decommissioned on 3 April 1946.[1]
