"Twist" is a Phish song written by Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall, released on the 2000 album Farmhouse. "Twist" is one of a number of new songs that made their debuts during the 1997 European summer tour, officially debuting on June 14, 1997 in Dublin, Ireland. The song (originally known as "Twist Around") was written during sessions for The Story of the Ghost, but was left off the final cut of the 1998 album. "Twist" was rearranged for inclusion on Farmhouse, with minor changes in lyrics. In the key of G major, it has a somewhat sultry Latin rhythmic and harmonic feel and follows a basic verse-refrain song structure. In some live versions "Twist" was played relatively straight-ahead, and at other times was treated as an extended jam in the vein of some of the material from The Story of the Ghost (see especially Fukuoka, JP 06/14/00, marking the 3rd anniversary of its debut.) The indistinct conversation heard at the end of the Farmhouse cut is between drummer Jon Fishman and some friends chatting within the studio. Song Length on Album: 03:24
