A Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) contains information needed by a measurement instrument to interface and properly use the signal from an analog sensor. TEDS is defined in IEEE 1451.2 and IEEE 1451.4. The TEDS can be deployed for a sensor in two ways. First, the TEDS can reside in embedded memory, typically a EEPROM, within the transducer and is wired to the measurement instrument. Second, a virtual TEDS can exist as a data file accessible by the measurement instrument. A virtual TEDS extends the standardized TEDS to legacy sensors and applications where the embedded memory is not available.
