Tool is a self-released demo cassette EP by the band Tool. It was the first recording Tool ever produced as a band. This demo tape is also known as 72826 (which corresponds to the word "Satan" spelled out on a phone keypad). It was recorded and released in 1991. The demo was originally intended to be sent to labels to get the band a contract, but the band apparently was so pleased with the result it sold copies to fans as well.[1] Much like Salival, this has become a rare collector's item, and an original copy would now be worth a sum entirely disproportionate to its original price. The demo tape has also circulated the internet simply under the name "Toolshed".

Rerecording of songs

All of the songs were later rerecorded and rereleased on either Opiate or Undertow; however, the songs "Cold and Ugly" and "Jerk-Off" only appear on Opiate as live recordings, meaning these are the only studio versions of these tracks. Additionally, the lyrics to "Sober" are not the same as the version released on Undertow. "Cold and Ugly", "Hush", "Part of Me", and "Jerk-Off" all reappear on Opiate. "Crawl Away" and "Sober" reappear on Undertow.
