Gold 2004 Athens Pole vault

Timothy (Tim) Mack (born September 15, 1972 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American pole vaulter who became Olympic champion in 2004. The same year he won the 2nd IAAF World Athletics Final with the result 6.01 m, thereby joining the exclusive "6 meters club" of pole vaulters who reached 6 meters. In 2001 he won the gold medal at the Goodwill games in Brisbane, Australia clearing 5.80 meters. He was also the USA Indoor champion in 2002 clearing 5.70 meters. He is a graduate of St. Ignaitus High School, in downtown Cleveland. He also appeared as Captain Planet at a banquet in May of 2007. Mack is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he competed for the Volunteers. Before Tennessee, he spent two years at Malone College. He was the NAIA champion. He earned a scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee. While at Tennessee, he was the 2005 SEC indoor pole vault champion clearing 5.50 meters. In the same year he won the NCAA Indoor title, clearing 5.60 meters. He finished 7th at the NCAA outdoor championships clearing 5.30 meters. His coach is Jim Bemiller. He is currently living and training at the Olympic Training center in Chula Vista, CA. He underwent shoulder surgery in 2006 but made a speedy recovery to come back and vault 5.85 meters at a small meet in Chula Vista.
