The Second Stage Turbine Blade is the first studio album released by progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria. It was originally released on February 5, 2002 through Equal Vision Records. It is the second part of a projected four-part tetralogy, telling the story of The Amory Wars. It was re-released on September 20 2005 (also through Equal Vision Records) with three previously unreleased bonus tracks. The album introduces us to Coheed and his wife Cambria. Coheed is infected with a serum that will grant him the power to destroy the universe if activated. Sanchez's website, www.evilinkcomics.net, sums up the story of this part:

Man and wife Coheed and Cambria are used as the centerpiece to enable Supreme Tri-Mage Wilhelm Ryan's attempt at destroying his archrival Mage, Mariah Antillarea. Due to a memory swiping years ago, the couple are led to believe that their former lives have now come back to haunt them. They’re told by General Mayo Deftinwolf (Ryan's Right hand) that they were long ago implanted with a great threat to Heaven’s Fence, The Monstar Virus. A virus with the ability to turn its host (Coheed) into a being powerful enough to drain the Keywork's energy sources to spark Armageddon, while their dear old counterpart, Inferno was given the only means to unlock it. Through more lies, they are led to believe their children have genetically acquired a mutated form of the virus, the Sinstar. This new strain only requires its host to mature to a certain age, and has no antidote unlike the Monstar. Their children cannot be saved and time will not side with them. Coheed and Cambria are faced with an unimaginable dilemma: to murder their own children or face Armageddon.

Cambria Kilgannon
wife of Coheed. She is also the mother of Josephine, Claudio, Maria, and Matthew.
Jesse Kilgannon (also known as Inferno or the Prize Fighter)
Coheed's brother (see The Second Stage Turbine Blade (comic) for more information).
Claudio Kilgannon
son of Coheed and Cambria. Claudio can also be seen as the singer's alter-ego, as well as the writer's (introduced in Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV).
Josephine Kilgannon
daughter of Coheed and Cambria.
Maria Kilgannon
daughter of Coheed and Cambria.
Matthew Kilgannon
son of Coheed and Cambria.
Supreme Tri-Mage Wilhelm Ryan
ruler of the Universe/Keywork.
Mayo Deftinwolf
a general in the Red Army, Wilhelm Ryan's military force.
Newo Ikkin
Claudio's girlfriend.
The Writer
Also referred to as The Writing Writer, the issues in his own life make him see delusions that cause him to take out his own suffering on the characters in his story. The story gets darker as his own problems grow. He doesn't want The Character (Claudio) to feel the same pain that he has, so he interferes with the story. He sees the visions of Ten Speed who manipulates his thinking.
Erica Court
The Writer's former lover, for whom he is writing the story of Heaven's Fence that is causing him to descend into madness. It is also hinted that The Writer once asked Erica Court to marry him (The Suffering), and at some point in the relationship he turned hostile (Welcome Home). Erica is represented multiple times within the story, at one point in the guise of Newo Ikkin (The bad, evil side), and at another point as Ambellina (The good, pure side) the fallen Prise.
Ten Speed
The manifestation of The Writer's ill will and malice which takes the form of his 10 speed bicycle. Ten Speed convinces the Writer that he needs to kill off Ambellina in order to end the story. If Ambellina is dead, Claudio will believe he is the Crowing and destroy the Keywork.
Wilhelm Ryan
The Supreme Tri-Mage of the Keywork. He gained control of the Keywork during the Mage Wars, where he claimed dominion over the other Mages. He knew of Mariah and used Coheed and Cambria to destroy her. When his plan failed, he killed her himself. He now fights the rebel army who is being led by Jesse (Inferno).
Ambellina
A Prise. Ambellina burns her wings off at the order of the other Prise so as to be more Human. She is sent to guide Claudio Kilgannon to his destiny as The Crowing. Like the rest of the Prise, her mission was to watch over the Keywork, and see that God's will was carried out. She is based upon the character Erica Court and represents the good and pure side.
Admiral Crom
Little is known about this villain, beyond that he is involved with the URA(United Red Army).
Apollo
Newo's dog - and was actually Nate Kelley's family's pet doberman.
Captain Norris Henderson
One of the two men in charge of the Gloria Vel Vessa, the ship that takes Coheed and Cambria to Paris: Earth.
Lieutenant Larry Goswell
the other of the two men in charge of the Gloria Vel Vessa.
Dr Hohenberger
creator of Coheed, Cambria, and Jesse. These three are not human, but rather IRO-bots and is also the last name of Rory Hohenberger, the drummer for Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever's first band, Toxic Parents. (see The Second Stage Turbine Blade (comic) for more information)
