Tha Dogg Pound, also known as D.P.G. (Dogg Pound Gangstaz), is a rap group made up of Kurupt and Daz Dillinger. They were signed to Death Row Records in their early careers and were key to the label's success. They recently signed to Cash Money Records, but after only 3 months on the label left due to money issues. [1] An extended family, referred to as D.P.G.C. (short for the Dogg Pound Gangsta Crip due to their gang affiliation), has over time been made up of Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Soopafly, RBX, Warren G, Tray Deee, Bad Azz, Lil' 1/2 Dead, Big C-Style, Lil' C-Style, Lady of Rage, E-White, Goldie Loc, Roscoe, and The Twinz. The group made their 1992 rap debut on Dr. Dre's The Chronic, on various songs. They also appeared on Snoop's classic Doggystyle, and the Death Row soundtracks Murder Was The Case and Above The Rim. Their solo, Dogg Food, was released in 1995. It was another addition to the controversy of rap music due to the sexual and violent lyrics and went on to sell three million albums. In 1996, they were featured on 2Pac's Death Row Records legendary and widely acclaimed debut All Eyez on Me. Kurupt and Daz went on to have solo success in 1998. They both eventually left Death Row Records, and Kurupt started Antra Records, while Daz started D.P.G. Recordz. In 2002 a feud arose between the two when Kurupt decided to sign back with Death Row Records, upsetting everyone involved with the group. His awaited Death Row release Against Tha Grain had been postponed several times while Kurupt was on the label, later being released in August of 2006, after he was off. In January 2005, Daz made another D.P.G. Records release titled Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP. Tha Dogg Pound then got back together as a group and released Dillinger & Young Gotti II in November 2005. In 2006 Snoop Dogg decided to get involved and the three released their official reunion album Cali Iz Active.

The group in 1993-1995
Before The Chronic album came out, Tha Dogg Pound consisted of Daz, Kurupt, and later Snoop Dogg & Soopafly. They instantly took the West Coast music industry by storm. When Snoop's debut album Doggystyle was released in 1993 it looked like Tha Dogg Pound was shortened to just Daz and Kurupt. In 1995, Daz and Kurupt released their first album Dogg Food under Death Row records. The album debuted #1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to reach 2x platinum status.
Kurupt and Daz leave Death Row
Shortly thereafter, Kurupt left Death Row but remained in Tha Dogg Pound. Kurupt released two albums in 1998 (Kuruption!) and 1999 (Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha) that had Daz and the rest of DPG on them. However, in 1998 Daz was making noise of his own over at Death Row by making his own label called Mobstyle Muzik, which was his first taste of the independent scene. Mobstyle's first release Poppa Snoop Presents Mobstyle Muzik Volume 1 failed and Daz returned to Death Row. In 1999 he started up DPG Recordz along with Christopher "Big C-Style" Bowden through Death Row Records. Daz eventually parted ways with Death Row and released his first independent album R.A.W. in 2000. That was followed by the DPG album Dillinger & Young Gotti.
Beef
The Dogg Pound had beef with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The reason of the feud was, Ruthless Records and Death Row Records were involved in a heated war. The Dogg Pound made a diss towards The Bone Thugs, on the song "Dogg Pound Gangstaz", with Kurupts line: "Ain't got no love for no hoes in harmony". In response Layzie Bone made a track called "Shotz to tha Double Glock", with such lines as "Dogg Pound hoes it's on". The feud ended, when Snoop Dogg and Kurupt were on a Krayzie Bone album. The Dogg Pound were also involved in a feud with B.G. Knocc Out, and Dresta. In response to Eazy-E's Real Muthaphukkin G'z, the Dogg Pound along with Snoop Dogg made a track called What Would You Do with such lines as: Fuck B.G. Knocc Out and every nigga down with him, later B.G. Knocc Out and Dresta retaliated with the song D.P.G./K, on there debut album Real Brothas. They had since squashed the argument and released a song called Blaze it up, as a bonus track on the Dogg Pound's Dogg Chit album.
Reunion
In late 2002, Kurupt went back to Death Row Records. Daz, Snoop, Terry Choe a.k.a Teezy and the rest of DPG took many shots and dissed Kurupt harshly for making the move. Kurupt did the same and declared war between both camps once again. It was like that for years until early 2005 when Kurupt and Daz made a truce. They started rapping again and even made a new album together. After The Western Conference in 2005 the two of the agree to revitalize the group with Snoop Dogg, Soopafly and Nate Dogg joining it and Snoop taking over the producing, distributing tasks. The Dogg Pound have recently released a joint venture reunion comeback project called Cali Iz Active under the aegis of Doggystyle Records. Their latest album, entitled "Dogg Chit", was released March 27, 2007; their next album is expected to be entitled Westcoast Aftershocc and will be released through Cash Money Records. It is expected to be released sometime in 2008--the first single, "Mystic River," has already leaked to the internet.
New Record Deal
In August 2007, it was announced that Tha Dogg Pound (Daz & Kurupt) had signed to Cash Money records. However due to, in short, cash money not being able to raise the required money the contract has since been terminated Daz Dillinger did however leak a single entitled "Ch-Ching," which would have promoted the new deal and the upcoming album. 100 Wayz
It appears as though since the deal not being made with Cash Money after all that the group has either changed the name or scrapped the title of there new album set to drop next year. As this info was recently left on there website: New Dogg Pound Track 12/7/07 Check out the new track from Tha Dogg Pound titled, "They Don't Want It". The track features Soopafly and is from Tha Dogg Pound's upcoming album titled, "100 Wayz". The album will have a new & improved sound and will drop in the summer of 2008. Stay tuned for more info. Trivia
Kurupt and Daz Dillinger often work with Snoop Dogg, Soopafly, Warren G, RBX, Lady of Rage, Lil' 1/2 Dead, and Nate Dogg. Daz is their cousin. In 2007, Kurupt and Daz were featured on the album Independent's Day from Psychopathic Records' own Twiztid.
