Telegraph is a small unincorporated town in Kimble County, Texas, United States. It was once much larger than its current population. The town formerly supported the building of U.S. Army telegraph lines supporting military installations east of the town.

Population and location

The population of Telegraph is 3. It is located in Kimble County, 13 miles (20 km) southwest of the town of Junction on U.S. Highway 377. [1]

History

By the 1890, there were ranches in the surrounding area. A post office was established in 1900. Ruth Holms was the postmistress. During the 1920s Telegraph was a popular vacation spot for campers, hunters, and fishermen as the town is located near the Texas Hill Country area. In 1925, Telegraph had a tourist park, a gas station, and a post office-general store. At its peak in 1966, the town had a population of 56. Former Texas governor Coke Stevenson lived near the area and maintained a postal address at the Telegraph post office. [2]
