Ted Dekker is an Indonesian-born American author of numerous fiction and one non-fiction books. His work is typically classified as "Christian Literature". He is currently under contract to Thomas Nelson publishing.

Contents

Introduction

His fictional works include Black, Red, White, Thr3e, Blink, Showdown, Saint, Skin, Heaven's Wager, Obsessed, When Heaven Weeps, Thunder of Heaven, and The Martyr's Song. He has co-authored Blessed Child, A Man Called Blessed, and House. His YA works include Chosen, Infidel (December 15,2007), Renegade, and Chaos(May 2008). Dekker also wrote The Slumber of Christianity, a non-fiction work about misplaced values in the post-modern church. The proliferation of Dekker's work is in large part due to the volume of writing he produces. It is not uncommon for Dekker's publisher to release three of his books in a single year. Though classified as "Christian Fiction," Dekker's work often crosses genres, ranging from fantasy to horror. More recent works have much less obvious Christian content in them, in an effort to reach a broader audience with a similar message to those he has always woven into his stories. Ted, the son of missionaries John and Helen Dekker, was raised in Indonesia, where he lived on and off until he was nineteen; now he lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and children. Before starting his career as an author Dekker wrote four novels before signing his first publishing deal.[1] Like the works of Stephen King, many of Dekker's novels are loosely connected to each other and are set in the same universe.

Writing career

Dekker's first published novel was 2000's Blessed Child, co-authored with Bill Bright. This was quickly followed up with two more books the same year. By summer 2003, Dekker had six novels in print. Dekker's breakout novel was his seventh book, 2003's Thr3e, a plot-driven thriller about Kevin Parson, a seminary student who is taunted by a maniacal killer via phone calls and riddles before each attempt to kill Kevin or other people with explosive devices. Thr3e won Dekker's first award, the 2004 EPCA Gold Medal for Best Fiction. Thr3e is the first of Dekker's works to be adapted into a movie, which saw theatrical release in January, 2007 and a DVD release of April, 2007. The producer is Ralph Winter (X-Men and its sequels, Being Joe Goodman, Fantastic Four, along with Hangman's Curse and other Christian indie films). In 2004, Dekker released the Circle TrilogyBlack, Red, and White. All three books in the trilogy were launched in the same year. The series tells the story of Thomas Hunter, a man who lives two different lives in two different realities. The story arc reflects a combination of suspense, political intrigue and C.S. Lewis-inspired, Christian analogy-infused worlds, with some influence from The Matrix as well. The summer of 2005 brought the release of Dekker's first non-fiction work, The Slumber of Christianity: Awakening a Passion for Heaven on Earth. In early 2006 he released House, co-written with popular Christian novelist Frank Peretti. A film based on House is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2008. In 2006, Dekker also released Showdown and Saint, both of which loosely follow the Circle Trilogy. His next book, Skin, was released on April 3 2007[2]. Ted Dekker is also releasing his circle trilogy, Black, Red, and White, as graphic novels. The books are being written based off Dekker's novels, by Matthew Hansen and Bob Strachan. In late 2007, Chosen and Infidel were released. They are young adult novels known as the "Lost Books Series" that continue the story found in the Circle Trilogy, Showdown, and Saint. Renegade and Chaos will complete the young adult series in the spring of 2008. The entire Project Showdown series will be finished with the release of Sinner in the fall of 2008. Overall, his "Books of History Saga" will include Black, Red, White, Showdown, Saint, House, Skin, Chosen, Infidel, Renegade, Chaos, and Sinner.
