Sven Vermant (born April 4, 1973 in Lier) is a Belgian football midfielder who, as of 2005, is playing for Club Brugge. Vermant started his career in 1978 at KV Hooikt and played there until 1989 when he moved to KV Mechelen, that had won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup the year before. In 1993 Vermant moved to Club Brugge, where he won two titles (1996, 1998) and two times the Belgian Cup (1995, 1996). Vermant stayed at Bruges until he transfered to FC Schalke 04 in 2001. In Schalke he won the DFB-Pokal (the German Cup) in 2001 and 2002.
In 2005 Vermant returned to his old love Club Brugge where he currently has a contract until 2008. He plays the position of defensive midfielfder and is the team-captain.
Vermant has collected 18 caps with Belgium and was in the team for the 2002 World Cup. He made his debut in 1995 on August 23, Belgium - Germany (1-2).
400 Caps
On December 9, 2007 he played his 400th game for Club Brugge against KSV Roeselare, which they won (1-2). Vermant is the 9th player in the history of the club to achieve this milestone.
Private Life
Sven Vermant is married to Stefanie Van Vyve (Miss Belgian Beauty 1995). They have a daugter, Elena (° 1999) and a son, Romeo (° 2004).
