Origin
The Persian name for lily is sausan. A similar word, shoshan, exists in Hebrew, meaning a type of flower, but the exact type is not known. The name of Susa, an ancient city of Persia, may be derived from the lilies which abounded in the plain in which it was situated. In Hungarian, the name 'Zsuzsa' is a form of Susan, which there also means 'evil.'
