Sumner is located at 40°56′59″N, 99°30′27″W (40.949770, -99.507584)^GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census^GR2 of 2000, there were 237 people, 102 households, and 60 families residing in the village. The population density was 817.0 people per square mile (315.5/km²). There were 117 housing units at an average density of 403.3/sq mi (155.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.94% White, 1.27% Native American, 3.38% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.70% of the population. There were 102 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.0% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% were non-families. 35.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 22.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 3.05.
