Stock sound effects are sound effects created for music libraries and then licensed royalty free.

Types

Stock sound effects are often used in cartoons, especially older shows. On television shows, when characters are watching a show on television or playing a video game, stock sounds are often used. Stock sounds used in television productions include human sounds such as coughs or screams, animal sounds, thunder, gunshots, and explosions. The ‘Eagle’ screech, a recording of a Red Tailed Hawk, is often used when the picture cuts to a desolate wilderness scene.
