State Domestic Product, or SDP, is the total value of goods and services produced during any financial year within the geographical boundaries of a province or state. Also called the state income, SDP is always calculated or estimated in monetary terms, and is instrumental in the evaluation of per capita income. It is to be noted that state here refers to a province within a political State - as in the American state of Virginia, or the Indian state of West Bengal, and not the greater geographical and political entity also denoted by the same name. While GDP gives a good estimate of the whole State, SDP provides more detailed economic details about provinces, and provides a more accurate estimate of the per capital income that is to be found from GDP (GDP/Total Population of State). It is to be noted that SDP as an economic indicator is estimated and used primarily in India only.
