Description
Jacob Jefferson Ramsey (known as Jake Ramsey to his friends) is an archeologist, a respected but unimportant job. While excavating a barren planet, Jake is contacted by Valerian Mengsk, son of Dominion Emperor Arcturus Mengsk with a penchant for knowledge and art. Valerian hires Ramsey's team to excavate a recently unearthed temple that has been the subject of fighting from the Protoss and Zerg. Accompanying them is a force of Marines, including the beautiful and skilled mercenary R.M.. The temple houses a number of artifacts deemed neither Protoss nor Zerg. Inside the innermost structure of the temple, Jake finds a dying Protoss who transfers her mind into Ramsey's brain beforing finally expiring. However, even as Jake struggles to find out what happened to him, Valerian, who wants whatever is in Jake's mind, gives the Marines secret orders to take Jake and him prisoners. They do so, but in turn are taken prisoner by a third force that Valerian also controls. Jake eventually discovers the Protoss inside his mind was a female named Zamara, a Protoss Preserver that was in charge of housing the memories of both dead and alive Protoss. Zamara warped Jake's brain to be able to house the memories of all the Protoss, essentially making him a preserver. These changes to Jake's brain also give him psychic abilities. He uses these abilities to undo the resocializing of a marine, who allows Jake and R.M. to escape before he kills everyone on board. When Valerian hears, he sends a force in search of them in anticipation of what Jake now knows. R.M. takes them to a planet outside of Dominion law, where her former partner and lover Ethan lives. Ethan, also eager to take advantage of the Protoss knowledge Jake now possesses, gives them shelter and hospitality, but is secretly planning to hand them over to Valerian. During the journey to Ethan and his time with him, Jake relives the memories of a Protoss named Temlaa, a member of the Shelak Tribe. Temlaa is the apprentice of a Protoss named Savassan, who teaches him things like map-making, telepathy, and art that other Protoss tribes have forgotten. Zamara eventually bestows on Jake the same psionic powers of her race by bonding with him rather than just existing as a separate being in his mind. Bonding refers to the combining of one's feelings, thoughts, and minds with another. This, in turn, gives him greater psychic abilities and allows him to read everyone's mind at once in the building. While doing this, Jake receives a thought from one of Ethan's employees concerning his plans to give them over to Valerian. He warns a doubtful R.M. of Ethan's plans. When R.M learns the truth, they escape, but are closely pursued. At this time, Jake has Temlaa's memories of the Khaydarin Crystals, and is told that Savassan is in fact the legendary Khas, who was known for uniting the Tribes. As they are chased, Jake finally receives all the memories Zamara has kept. However, hoping to give to his own people the same revelations Khas did when he discovered the Khaydarin Crystals, Jake creates a psionic link among the terrans, where everyone's feelings, thoughts, memories, and minds are combined in the area. This creates the same effect the Khaydarin Crystals did for the Protoss. As the ships behind them fall off, Jake and R.M. enter warp-space.
Shadow Hunters
Shadow Hunters is the second book in the Dark Templar Saga trilogy.[1] Having escaped the Terran Dominion and stole a new navigational computer, Jake "Jacob" Ramsey and Rosemary "R.M." Dahl journey to Aiur, the former homeworld of the Protoss. They have to locate a Khaydarin crystal to store Zamara's consciousness and bring it to Shakuras, the current home of all Protoss otherwise Jacob will die of his reworked brain. Meanwhile, on "Dead Man's Rock, Zerg attack the planet, taking the barely alive body of Ethan Stewart. They brought him back Char, where Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, placed him in a chrysalis. Despite the fact that he wasn't a psychic, he had an intelligent mind to be reborn. He soon awoken, as her consort. Upon arrival, Jake finds that Aiur has been overrun by the Zerg who damage their ship beyond repair. They are barely rescued by Protoss, who stayed behind to keep the Zerg occupied while the majority left. However, R.M. is put on a drug called Sundrop, from a crazed cult called the Forged, lead by the mysterious Benefactor, and she will die if she doesn't consume more. They order her to bring Jake to them. But she reveals the truth to him, they do a desperate therapy to purge the Sundrop from her. Yet, what Jake discovers beneath Aiur is a horror beyond his wildest nightmares -- Ulrezaj -- an archon comprising the seven most deadly and powerful dark templar in history, leader of the Forged. During their time on Aiur, Jake experiences the memories of Vetraas, a templar warrior and friend of the famous Adun. Adun was tasked by the Conclave to destroy the Rogue Tribes, Protoss who didn't join the Khala. However, Adun disobeyed orders and taught the Tribes to tap within their power, hoping they will join the Khala. Instead, he got the opposite; the Rogues accidentally unleashed psionic storms that raged across the planet until the Conclave scattered them. With fear of the fact that the other Protoss will be angry if they execute all the Rogues, they exiled them on a derelict Xel'Naga craft and then kill them. Adun barely was able to stop it and perished as a result. With the survivors, they managed to reactivate the damaged warp gate to get to Shakuras. In a four-way battle between the Dominion, Zerg, Protoss and Ulrezaj, a mass Protoss exodus occurred, with great losses. Jake barely gets through.
