History
Star was founded as a train stop when the Gulf and Ship Island RR came through in July of 1900. It was prosperous a village, having a bank, hotel, car dealership, numerous stores, and a school. Its prosperity suffered as people began to leave the rural areas to move to the city.
Famous People
Country music star Faith Hill was born in Jackson and raised in Star. Faith sings about her hometown in the song Mississippi Girl.
