St Mary's College, Blackburn, Lancashire, UK was established by the Marist Fathers some time ago. It is now a modern college institute for students aged between 16 and 18. Most students are taking what is known in the UK as "Advanced-Levels" (A-Levels) or, if in the first year; "Advanced, Subsidiary Levels" (AS-Levels).(in cairns)

New Developments

St. Mary’s College officially opened its latest £1m building, The Finley-Stokes Centre on Friday, 18th March. The building was opened by The Right Reverend Thomas Burns who is Bishop of the Forces. Bishop Burns is an ex-teacher at St. Mary’s also a member of the Marist community who have been trustees of the College since its founding in 1925. The building has been named in honour of Mr. Michael Finley who retired as Principal of the College at the end of March and Mr Peter Stokes Deputy Principal who died in May 2004. Recent developments include the new science block, which was completed in August 2007, in time for the start of the 2007/08 academic year. It has been named The Graystone Science Centre. A new performing arts complex is currently under construction, and is scheduled for completion in December 2007. A new performing arts building is due to open in December 2007.
