Spike bands are bracelets or necklaces, usually made from leather, and adorned with metal or plastic spikes. They are particularly popular in punk rock and heavy metal culture, especially black metal. The necklace variants are worn like chokers. Most commercially available spike bands feature spikes with rounded ends to avoid injury. However, participants in a mosh pit are still required by etiquette to remove any spike bands that may be dangerous. Variations on spike bands include ones with plastic spikes, usually brightly colored. These feature more in rave culture than in metal. Spike bands (plastic or metal) are also popular items in sexual fetishism.
