Sonny Kay is the founder/co-owner of the Los Angeles, California based independent record label Gold Standard Laboratories, known also as GSL. Between 2003 and 2006 he was the vocalist in the post-hardcore band Year Future. Prior to that he was a member of such bands as The VSS, Subpoena the Past, Savalas, and Angel Hair. He was born in London, England in 1972. His family relocated to Los Angeles in 1979, then to Colorado in 1987. After attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, Kay moved to Berkeley, California in 1996. In addition to operating GSL, Kay has a career as a freelance designer, creating album and singles covers for a wide range of bands both on the label and elsewhere. His resume includes work for The Mars Volta, The Locust, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Sabertooth Tiger, Subtitle, De Facto (band), Dead and Gone, Triclops!, The VSS, and The Starlite Desperation.
