The Sojourner rover was the first space exploration rover to successfully reach another planet. Sojourner landed on Mars as part of the Mars Pathfinder mission on July 4 1997.

Role within the Mars Pathfinder mission
The Mars Pathfinder mission, including the Sojourner rover, was launched by NASA on December 4 1996. 550 of the images returned from Mars Pathfinder were from Sojourner.
