Slim Moon (b. Matthew Moon on October 15, 1967 in Missoula, Montana, United States) is the founder of the rock music label Kill Rock Stars. He also runs its sister label 5 Rue Christine. Slim and his wife Portia, who now runs KRS, have decided to close 5RC. In 2007, 5RC will release its last records. During the course of his music career, he has had jobs as a musician, a spoken word artist, a promoter, an agent, a manager, a music store owner, and a marketer. Groups and entertainers that he has been associated with include Kurt Cobain (his onetime next-door neighbor), Earth (a band he helped found with onetime roommate Dylan Carlson), Deerhoof, Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith, Kathleen Hanna, Bratmobile, Witchypoo, The Punks, The Mae Shi, Longstocking, and his own band, Slim Moon and What Army. He also produced the music video for "Pox" by Xiu Xiu (directed by Corey Smith). Moon also founded Shotclock Management (with his wife Portia Sabin), a company that represents Laura Veirs, The Gossip, and Wooden Wand. In October of 2006 Moon announced he would be departing from Kill Rock Stars to work as an A&R representative at Nonesuch Records, a Warner Music Group subsidiary. Portia Sabin will be taking over management of Kill Rock Stars from their new home in New York City. In June of 2007, Moon was laid off from his position at Nonesuch as part of corporate downsizing in Warner Music Group. A few days later, Moon was named senior director of A&R and artistic development at Rykodisc, also owned by WMG.
