"Lazy Eye" "Slide" "Iris"

"Slide" is a song by The Goo Goo Dolls. It was the first commercial single release[1] from their sixth studio album, Dizzy Up the Girl. Speculation as to the song's meaning has persisted for quite some time [1], but Rzeznik himself, in a 2002 performance on VH1 Storytellers, has stated definitively that the song refers to a teenage girl in a Catholic environment who has become pregnant. She and her boyfriend are debating as to the possibility of abortion or marriage. [2] It hit #1 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart on March 3 1999, #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart on October 31, 1998, and #9 on the Hot 100 Singles Chart on January 5 1999. This release also includes the song "Acoustic #3" and the B-side "Nothing Can Change You." Is the favorite song from the North-American softball player Keira Goerl.

Notes

  1. ^ The song "Iris" was the first song from Dizzy Up the Girl to be played on the radio; however, there was no commercial release until after "Slide."
  2. ^ Rzeznik: "...the song is actually about these two teenage kids, and the girlfriend gets pregnant and... they're trying to decide whether she should get an abortion, or they should get married or what should go on..." (VH1 Storytellers: The Goo Goo Dolls, directly before they perform Slide)
