The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, (Soeurs des Saints Noms de Jésus et de Marie)[1] Motto: "Jésus Et Marie Ma Force Et Ma Glorie" is a teaching order founded at Longueuil, Québec, Canada in 1843 by (Eulalie Durocher) Blessed Mother Marie-Rose (1811- 1849) [2] for the Christian education of young girls.[3] Since 1843, the SNJM's mission to educate young girls has extended beyond Québec [4] into other Canadian provinces, including Manitoba [5] and Ontario. [6][7] Their mission of education also continues in the United States, Haiti, Lesotho, [8] and South America. Within the United States, the Sisters have established missions in New York [9], California [10], Oregon [11], Florida [12], Mississippi [13] and Washington [14], among other states [15]. Many left Canada for America to open more schools, including Holy Names Academy in Seattle, and Holy Names High School and Holy Names University (both in Oakland, California) as well as Marylhurst University in Marylhurst, Oregon.
