Sheila Smythe is a character in the That Wilkin Boy spin-off from Archie Comics. She is the often more understanding wife of militant blowhard Samson Smythe. Where Samson can't stand the idea that their daughter Samantha Smythe is going steady with Woodrow "Bingo" Wilkin, III, Sheila is absolutely thrilled by it, since she and Bingo's mother, Wilma Wilkin, are best friends. During one story, after Samson runs Bingo out yet again, and tries to persuade Samantha to go out with Tough Teddy, of whom he is more tolerant of; Sheila slyly reminds him of a former boyfriend of her's named Alfie Botsworth. This infuriated Samson and he described how he almost tried to steal Sheila from him. However, he discovered that Teddy was as bad as Alfie was; and thus begged Samantha's forgiveness and unbent in his attitude toward Bingo. Sheila is also known for reining her more obstinate husband in when he gets too out of hand, and also being referee (along with Wilma) when their husbands go at each other for whatever reason.
