Shaft, Inc. (有限会社シャフト Yūgengaisha Shafuto?) is a Japanese animation studio founded on September 1 1975 by Hiroshi Wakao, a former Mushi Production's animator. The studio was originally founded for finishing paint from another animation studio. But later in 1980, worked on animation production as subcontractor. They're able to produce their own first original series, Yume kara samenai (夢から、さめない Yume kara samenai?) in 1987. Shaft plays a little part cooperating with Gainax in order to produce DVD version of Top o Norae! Gunbuster in 2000. In 2001 to 2005 Shaft was in a joint production with Gainax to produce Mahoromatic, This Ugly and Beautiful World, and He is My Master. Upon Hiroshi Wakao retirement in 2004, Kubota Mitsutoshi has become the studio's representative director. Shaft then shifted into digital works and then become their strongpoint.[1]
