Seek (ASX: SEK) is an internet job recruitment company listed on the ASX as of April 2005 and is the dominant player in online recruitment in the Australian market with 56% market share and over 150 thousand jobs online.
History
Seek was one of the few profitable dot coms formed in Australia in the 1990s and survived the dot com crash of the early noughties. Its success in this difficult period is due to a buoyant employment market, strong market position, strategic alliances with dominant media companies (Yahoo!, NineMSN, Optus) as well as key investors who helped it to grow, most notably PBL, who purchased a 27.5% stake. James Packer remains a director (the chairman).
Today
Seek enjoys a dominant market position attracting twice the internet traffic of its nearest rival and its stock has rallied of late on the ASX. It has publicly announced that while it remains aware of its competition, it does not feel they pose immediate threat to profit outlook and operation margins. Seek is now the No.1 Jobsite in New Zealand as well, and its Seek Learning site is the leading on-line Training provider in Australia. Seek has also won the following awards: 2007 Recognised in the 20 Best Employers to Work for in Asia (Hewitt; Wall Street Journal Asia) 2006/7 Highly Commended in Best Employers to Work For in Australia and New Zealand (Hewitt; Boss) 2005 Special Commendation Award in Best Employers to Work for in Australia (Boss; Hewitt) 2004 Best Business & Finance Employment Website for 2004 (Hitwise Australia). 2004 Special Commendation Award in Best Employers to Work for in Australia (Boss; Hewitt) 2004 Finalist in the Corporate Partnership Awards for SEEK Volunteer (AFR Magazine) 2004 Best Employment Website (New Zealand NetGuide Awards) 2003 National Finalist Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships for SEEK Volunteer 2003 Best Employment Website (New Zealand NetGuide Awards) 2003 Best Employer in Victoria (Boss; Hewitt) 2003 Special Commendation Award in Best Employers to Work for in Australia (Boss; Hewitt) 2002 4th Fastest Growing company in Australia (BRW)
