Seed of Chucky (also known as Child's Play 5: Seed of Chucky) is a 2004 film and the fifth entry in the popular Child's Play series. Seed of Chucky follows the events of Bride of Chucky and stars Jennifer Tilly (who plays herself and also voices Tiffany), Billy Boyd (as the voice of Glen/Glenda), and Brad Dourif (as Chucky). The film features rapper Redman, director John Waters and S Club (7) star Hannah Spearritt. It was written and directed by Don Mancini, who created Child's Play and has written all sequels to date. With this entry, Mancini marked his directorial debut. dvs The film, shot in Romania, continues the series' evolution from the pure-horror genre of the first movie to a hybrid horror-comedy. Besides spoofing other horror movies, the film references domestic dramas and tabloid television.

Plot
The film begins with Glen, the apparent "son" of Chucky and Tiffany, living a life of embarrassment and abuse at a circus. Desperate to know his parents (after seeing behind the scenes footage of the Child's Play movie-within-a-movie on TV), Glen escapes and tracks them down to Hollywood. Upon tracking down his parents, now dummies in one of Jennifer Tilly's films, Glen uses a voodoo amulet (the "Heart of Dambala" from the previous film) to bring them back to life. Glen is horrified by their homicidal behavior, which provokes Tiffany to question whether this is the best life for them, while Chucky pressures Glen to accept being a family of murderers. Chucky and Tiffany are also troubled by the fact that Glen was somehow born without a gender. Throughout the film, Chucky refers to his child as Glen, while Tiffany refers to him/her as Glenda. Eventually, the puppets decide that they will continue their murderous rampage but as a human family. To this end, they plan on impregnating Tilly with Chucky's "DNA" (sperm), and upon birth will transfer Tiffany's soul in Tilly, Glen's soul into the baby and Chucky into Tilly's prospective new director, Redman. That evening, the puppets ambush Tilly and Redman at Tilly's estate. They initially try to drug the pair's champagne, but this fails and Tiffany is forced to knock Redman out with a camera, and Tilly, while she's running away, is hit in the head with the champagne bottle. The puppet couple drags the unconscious human couple upstairs, where Tiffany impregnates Tilly with the DNA using a gravy baster. Meanwhile, Glen and Chucky track down a nosy reporter, and Glen accidentally ends up taking his first life by melting the reporter's face with acid. The day after (Redman is secretly killed by Tiffany due to her inability to control her homicidal tendencies), Tilly is horrifed when she wakes up to find herself with a fully-pregnant belly. The voodoo magic that "fuels" the killer dolls have also accelerated the pregnancy. Tilly is then captured by Chucky and her chauffeur, who is serving as a replacement body for Chucky since Redman was killed. Many hours later, Tilly gives birth to twins, a boy and a girl. It is then that Chucky has an epiphany. After several years of being an infamous killer doll, Chucky finally accepts (and embraces) his circumstances. This disturbs Tiffany to the point of rejecting her lover and resolving to take Glen with her. An enraged Chucky throws a knife at Tiffany, but misses and accidentally kills the chauffeur. Before Chucky can take vengeance and before Glen can decide which baby to possess, the police arrive, forcing the dolls to flee. Some time later, Tilly finds herself in a hospital. Unfortunately for her, Tiffany and Glen have tracked her down and attempt to take her body. Before the ritual is completed however, Chucky arrives and kills Tiffany with an axe to the forehead. Glen fights his own father to avenge his mother, ending the fight by hacking off his father's limbs. Chucky exclaims his pride over Glen finding his killing instinct just before Glen beheads him. The films ends at Glen's birthday party. It is revealed that Tiffany's body-exchange ritual was successful after all; Tiffany and Tilly's souls were switched at the last second. Also, Glen now resides interchangeably within the bodies of both the boy and girl, switching between them when desired. At his party, Glen (in boy form) opens a present only to have one of Chucky's arms reach out for him from inside the box.
Themes
Writer/Director Don Mancini, who is openly gay, has stated, "My relationship with my dad is reflected, in a metaphoric way, in Glen's relationship with Chucky in Seed: Chucky wants to make a man out of Glen by encouraging him to kill, but Glen wants to remain true to himself." (CampBlood.org, "Interview with Horror Homo of the Year for 2004, Don Mancini", 2004). "If you were to do this story with real people it would be disturbing and very sad.” (pluggedinonline.com, "Seed of Chucky Review,")
DVD
"Seed Of Chucky" was released on DVD on June 7, 2005, in both "rated" widescreen and fullscreen and "unrated" widescreen versions. The unrated version features an extended scene of Chucky masturbating, in which the camera cuts to his hand fumbling with his partially exposed penis. Also, when Tiffany kills Fulvia, she drags her in the closet, then sees her daughter Glenda, watching outside. She tells Glenda not to tell anyone.
Homages
Seed of Chucky contains many references to other films. The gender-confused child of Chucky and Tiffany is named either Glen or Glenda. This is an obvious tribute to Ed Wood, Jr.'s movie Glen or Glenda. Glen's alternate personality, Glenda, is a murderous "lady-killer" -- an homage to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and Brian De Palma's Dressed to Kill. Glen's refusal to kill a fly is another reference to Psycho, which ends with Norman Bates talking to himself in his own head about displaying calmness by not swatting a fly on his hand. There is also a reference to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, when Chucky breaks down the hospital room door with an axe, a la Jack Nicholson. After a long pause, instead of saying "Here's Chucky!!!" - a play on the famous line "Here's Johnny!!!", he says "I can't think of a thing to say, fuck it."
Newer Releases
Many fans of the Chucky horror films have demanded that the film makers make a sixth installment to the series. A sixth film has yet to be confirmed or denied, though due to the remake being in talks, this is unlikely.
