Lieutenant Sean Hawk was a fictional character in the Star Trek film series, played by Neal McDonough in Star Trek: First Contact. He was the helmsman on the USS Enterprise-E during a Borg incursion. While on a mission outside the ship, Hawk was assimilated by the Borg and is subsequently killed by Worf. In the first outlines of the script for the film, there are references to the fact that Hawk is gay, which would have been the first appearance of an openly gay character in Star Trek history. This did not make it into the final cut of the film, although Hawk's subsequent appearances in flashback form in later non-canon novels (such as the Next Generation Section 31 novel, "Rogue") further develop this plot point. The novels also introduce the rest of Hawk's family, who all hail from the Mars colonies, and Hawk's Trill partner Ranul Keru.
