“Screwed the Pooch” is the 41st episode of Family Guy. It guest-stars Bob Barker as himself.
Plot summary
While Peter, Cleveland, Quagmire, and Joe are playing poker, Joe suggests they take Peter to Atlantic City after seeing Peter's "poker face." Peter can't, as he and his family are going to visit his in-laws, despite the fact that his father-in-law hates him. Peter starts cultivating himself, without success. Meanwhile, Brian’s sex drive has been strong lately, and becomes almost uncontrollable after he sniffs the vulva of a female dog at the park. Lois and Peter are oblivious to it until they catch him masturbating in the bathroom. Lois believes it is normal, and suggests that Brian go with them to get time off and help clear his mind, and eventually decides it would be the best choice. The family goes to visit Lois’ parents, and Peter finally wins the respect and friendship of Carter Pewterschmidt, Lois’ wealthy and elitist father after helping him win a poker match, which involved Michael Eisner, Bill Gates, and Ted Turner. Later, Eisner, Gates, Carter and Peter go out smashing mailboxes to have some "extra fun." Not long after, the cordiality between Peter and Carter is destroyed when Brian mates with Sea Breeze, Pewterschmidt’s prize-winning racing greyhound, at the racetrack, also causing their bet to be lost. Sea Breeze ends up pregnant, and Brian is immediately blamed. Brian wants to raise the puppies himself, but Carter disapproves, so Brian elopes with Sea Breeze and they run away together in hopes to raise the puppies together. With help from Michael Eisner and Bill Gates, Sea Breeze is tracked down to a motel they were hiding inside of. The custody case soon after goes to court, Carter brings up sordid details of Brian’s past and personality to destroy his chances at trial. During the situation, Brian proves himself to know much about the Griffin children, displaying that he would indeed being a caring father for his children since he cared about the family kids. It is decided by the judge that in order to have custody of his puppies, Brian must be neutered. Brian faces a tough decision of would he rather have custody of his puppies or keep his testicles. Just as Brian goes under the knife, he, Lois, and Peter discover that the puppies are born, but they don’t resemble Brian; they resemble Ted Turner. Brian doesn't get fixed and the three leave to go home.

- This is one of the few episodes to use a cold open.
- The New Yorker cartoon Peter stares at for two days, in an attempt to understand Lois' father, is signed “Hentemann,” after Family Guy writer and producer Mark Hentemann.
- After Brian is found, there is a picture of the Quahog News. The title of the newspaper states “RACE DOG FOUND.” There is also an article there with the title “Sleazy Prostitute Given Important Position at Local News Station,” with the picture of the black prostitute that came out of Tom Tucker’s motel room.
- This is the second time of three Michael Eisner appeared in this season; the first was in "Brian Does Hollywood" and the third was in "Family Guy Viewer Mail #1". He would also appear later in "The Courtship of Stewie's Father".
- The poker game of Texas hold 'em is supposedly played during a scene in the episode, but the game actually shown is not hold 'em. It appears to be a form of Five-card draw.
- A clip from this episode was seen in the trailer for the film Jumper.
- Peter erroneously refers to Carter Pewterschmidt's yacht as a schooner, however in the first shot it appears to be a sloop, and when it sinks it appears to be a ketch.
- The Newport Dog Track is not an actual racetrack. It's more likely that Carter would have raced Seabreeze at the former Lincoln Park (now Twin River) in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Also, several dogs in the race are depicted with numbers greater than 8. Greyhound races are typically limited to 8 entries.
Cultural references
- Peter says he is like Roo when he is in the kangaroo’s pouch. He is referencing the joey from the Winnie-the-Pooh books.
- After Joe tells Peter to find a common ground with Lois’ father, Peter acts upon the advice as if he were Ebenezer Scrooge; he shouts at Bob Cratchit, who’s copying letters in the corner, telling him he has to work through Christmas, as in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Cratchit asks, “But, sir, what of Tiny Tim?” Peter responds, “Bah, he and his ukulele shall go wanting” (a reference to Tiny Tim the musician, not Cratchit’s son).
- When Lois questions whether or not Peter fixed the bathroom faucet, Peter is so sure that he had already done so that he offers to give Lois all of his Star Wars action figures ( Except for Boba Fett) if it's still dripping.
- Lois explains to Carter that Peter has “cultured himself like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.”
- Carter mentions that, at a party, Peter approached the Premier of the People's Republic of China and said, “Dong, where is my automobile?” The line is a reference to John Hughes’ movie Sixteen Candles.
- Peter leaves the set of Survivor and trips into the set of The Price Is Right.
- When Lois asks Carter if Peter can play in his poker game, he replies that he would rather be stuck in an elevator with Nathan Lane, Gilbert Gottfried, Carrot Top, and Sean Hayes.
- Peter says he learned that Ted Turner blinks twice whenever he lies. He said he first noticed it when Ted did an interview with Barbara Walters, in which he said he'd be with Jane Fonda forever.
- The elderly couple in the Hotel Room say they are going to see Bobby Darin in concert soon. Darin died in 1973 -- of course the couple may be delusional.
- Bill Gates’ signal for a helicopter to pick him up is the Microsoft Windows symbol, and is a parody of the iconic method of signaling for Batman. The Windows logo’s colours are upside-down (the Windows logo is, from top row to bottom row: red–green, blue–yellow).
- When in the court trial, Peter is said to be banned from renting videos because he taped over their tapes, the clip of the film shown that Peter spoils the plot for is Citizen Kane, thus saving customers from "two long boobless hours".
- In a parody of the Elián González situation, Brian and Sea Breeze are found cowering in the closet of the motel room in which they were hiding.
- Carter mentions how Bill Gates is bringing his Stretch Armstrong to a get together\
