Scientific Technology Options Assessment (STOA) is the branch of the European Union government responsible for technology assessment. STOA works in conjunction with organizations within both the private and public sectors – including laboratories, universities and research institutes – to provide expert assessment of technology related matters to the members of the European Parliament and European Commission.

Organization

STOA is governed by a bureau of several MEPs. The STOA Bureau is run by a three-member Panel, comprised of the Vice-President of the European Parliament, along with an elected Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Currently, the Chairman is Philippe Busquin of Belgium and the Vice-Chairman is Malcolm Harbour or Great Britain.
