The School Leaving Certificate is the final exam in Nepal secondary school system and is commonly called the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) Examination. Every student must appear in this exam after they complete grade 10th of their study before they join the higher secondary or intermediate level education. SLC exam is normally scheduled in May/June of every year. This exam is known as the "iron barrier" in Nepal as the students who fail this exam can't further their study.
Exam Centre
Whole country is divided into 5 regions and every region is further divided into many exam centres. Exam paper is different from region to region but is the same in one single region. Every exam takes place at the same time throught the whole country.
Result
After about two months of completion of SLC Exam, result is brought out by the examination control board, Sanothimi , Bhaktpur of Nepal. Students are categorized into five divisions according to their score 1. distinction - above 80% 2. first division - above 60% 3. second division - above 45% 4. third division - above 33% students scoring below 33% are considered failed. Despite such low % of requirement to pass the exam, many students ( more than 50%) still fail the exam every year because of poor quality of education in the country and due to the lack of proper education facilities. Result of SLC is very important as students with high marks get various scholarship in their higher study.
