Scandal is a rock band from the 1980s fronted by Patty Smyth. The band's two biggest hits were "Goodbye to You" (1982 - #65 U.S.) and "The Warrior" (1984 - #7 U.S.)

Career

Scandal was formed in New York in 1981 by guitarist Zack Smith, who also wrote most of the band's hits. The other initial members included: bassist Ivan Elias, guitarist Keith Mack, guitarist Jon Bon Jovi (briefly), keyboardist Benjy King, drummer Thommy Price, and vocalist Patty Smyth. The band had much success early on but due to struggles within the group and their record company, it slowly dissolved -- losing member after member. By the time "The Warrior" tour hit the road in 1984, all that remained of the original lineup were Smyth and Mack. Scandal broke up shortly after the tour ended. The group (minus Ivan Elias, who died of cancer in June 1995) reunited in 2004 for VH1's Bands Reunited show and did a string of concerts on the United States East Coast culminating in a show at Irving Plaza in their home city (New York) on February 9, 2005. During the summer of 2006, the band (excluding Thommy Price) reunited again for VH1's "We Are The 80's" tour, playing a string of large - mainly outdoor - venues and earning critical acclaim. During the summer and fall of 2007, they toured again (this time without Zack Smith). Patty Smyth is presently married to John McEnroe and lives in New York City. They have six kids between them (three from his previous marriage to Tatum O'Neal, one from her previous relationship and two together) She has written several songs since the Scandal days most notably the theme song for McEnroe's talk show on CNBC.

Trivia

• "The Warrior" was featured in a mock iPod commercial inserted into the sixth episode of the fourth season of Family Guy. In the commercial, Stewie Griffin dances in silhouette while the chorus of the song is played.

Both "The Warrior" and Stewie Griffin use the phrase "victory is mine": the words are sung by Patty Smyth at 3 minutes 30 seconds, and it is a recurring catchphrase of Stewie's.

• "The Warrior" was also featured on the radio station Flash FM in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
• "Goodbye To You" is regarded as an example of early 80s new wave. The song has appeared on dozens of multi-artist compilation CDs. The third line of the lyrics is often misheard - the actual lyric is "You know you never got by your fear to choose." lyrics
• "The Warrior was featured in the third installment of the Guitar Hero series "Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s".
