San Rafael Canton

San Rafael is the name of the fifth canton in the province of Heredia in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 48.39 km²^[1], and has a population of 39,636^[2]. The capital city of the canton is also called San Rafael. The canton is northeast of the provincial capital city of Heredia, reaching from the suburbs high into the Cordillera Central (Central Mountain Range). The canton of San Rafael is subdivided into 5 distritos (districts).

History

The canton was established by a decree of May 28, 1885.
