San Rafael is a 5th class municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 12,847 people in 2,450 households.

Barangays

San Rafael is politically subdivided into 9 barangays.

  • Aripdip
  • Bagacay
  • Calaigang
  • Ilongbukid
  • Poscolon
  • San Andres
  • San Dionisio
  • San Florentino
  • Poblacion

San Rafael is the main barangay. It has big primary and secondary schools. The primary school is Polacion San Rafael Elementary School. It has a standard of teaching that lets good students pass the test of life. This also applies to San Rafael National High School. The system of school is: 2 years in Kindergarten, 6 years in elementary and 4 years in high school. There are 4 Gradings every school year. The students will have a test each Grading (this applies to students from Grade 1st to 4th). The 4th Grading is the most important because it decides whether a student can go to the next grade/year. Primary School: Kindergarten; 2 years (K-1 and K-2); minimum age: 2 y.o. Grade 1 (age 7) - Grade 6 (age 12) There are also other kinder gardens. The one that's still open is the Batist kinder Garden Church and The other one,that was closed when the good priest(Father Glue)was moved to other church and passed away. Secondary School: 1st Year - 4th Year The Subjects for Grade 1 students are English, Mathematics, Pilipino, Sibika at Cultura (History and Culture). Philippines is the first and only country that has English for the Subjects at school. English is used in English, Mathematics and Science subjects. Grade 2 students has English, Mathematics, Science, Sibika at Kutura, Agriculture. From Grade 3 - Grade 6 students have more subjects such as Music, Art, P.E. and Hekasi (it contains 5 subjects but graded as one subject), etc. Usually everyone wants to study further after high school but can't afford it. The Philippines is not a poor country but more likely to afford better facilities for its people but corruption is the big issue. For example, before the current Mayor Ronie Balasico (San Rafael's Mayor) is elected for mayor. San Rafael has a high standard for cleanliness and good facilities.
