Sami al-Askari (also transliterated Askeri) is an Iraqi politician and a member of the Iraqi National Assembly. He is an independent politician, thought to be close to the Islamic Dawa Party. He was a member of the committee that drafted the Constitution of Iraq. Al-Sharqiya reported in 2006 that Sami was quoted as saying that the United Iraqi Alliance bloc would seek Iranian intervention if it was ousted from power. He is currently seeking position as Minister of Transport, and has been courting members from the Sadrist party in order to secure this position. During the regime of Saddam Hussein he was active in exile opposition politics, joining the 1992 Executive Council of the Iraqi National Congress as a representative of the Islamic Dawa Party. [1]
