S. Shankar [1] (Dr.S.Shankar) (born August 17, 1963) is a popular film director, film producer and screenwriter from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. He has made many Tamil movies which have social themes with a commercial narration [2]. He is credited with delivering expensive, high end CGI in most of his films. Most of his movies from Tamil are dubbed into other languages especially Telugu and Hindi. He started his career with 'Gentleman' which grossed very well, then followed by 'Kadhalan', 'Indian', 'Jeans' and 'Mudhalvan' which were all mega-blockbusters. He directed the remake version of Mudhalvan in Hindi (Nayak),it was a success at the box office. His next film 'Boys' was a musical blockbuster but grossed moderately in Tamil and Telugu. His film Anniyan [3] (Aparichutudu in Telugu) which is based on Multiple Personality Disorder was a huge commercial hit in both Tamil and Telugu languages. As of June 2007, his film Sivaji: The Boss is released on 15th and said to break Indian records for the sale of tickets and demands. During the audio launch of Shankar's upcoming production film Kalloori, Director Shankar revealed the audio release will be under the Banner[4] S Musics.

- Shankar have been awarded an honorary doctorate from M.G.R University Tamil Nadu on August 27th 2007 for driving in social message's in all his movies. - Shankar's next movie which is also his lifetime dream movie - 'Robo' - as the name suggests would probably be a sci-fi thriller. The latest news is that Shah Rukh Khan has turned producer for this movie and Ajith is to play the lead role in this movie. Big hype is also being built among the huge fan base of Ajith and Shankar as well as neutral fans.
