Russell Nicholson was a member of Somerville, Massachusetts' "Winter Hill Gang" and a former MDC (Metropolitan District Commission) police officer, he was rumored to be the driver for James "Buddy" McLean during the assassination of Charlestown gangster Bernard McLaughlin. Nicholson, a Protestant, was one of the only non-Catholic members of the gang. He was later murdered by the surviving McLaughlin Brothers, Edward "Punchy" McLaughlin and George McLaughlin for his involvement in their brother's murder.
