Roy L. "Rocky" Dennis (1962–1978) was an American boy afflicted with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare, disfiguring, sclerotic bone disorder. The condition usually results in neurological disorders and death during childhood; Rocky died at the age of 16. Following Rocky's death, his family donated his body to the University of California, Los Angeles for medical research.
In popular culture
Anna Hamilton Phelan wrote a screenplay based loosely on Rocky's life; Peter Bogdanovich directed the resultant film, entitled Mask, in which Eric Stoltz portrays Rocky. Swedish pop musician Jens Lekman published Rocky Dennis in Heaven, an EP containing four songs about Rocky and his portrayal in the film. He was also depicted in the Family Guy episode "Petarded", and is mentioned in "Peter's Got Woods." He is referred to in the Bloodhound Gang song "Legend In My Spare Time" off their 1995 "Use Your Fingers" album. Rocky Dennis is also the name of a rock band from Galveston Island, TX.
