Roxanne "Roxy" Mitchell is a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She is played by Rita Simons.[1] Roxy arrived in Walford with her sister Ronnie (played by Samantha Janus) on 24 July 2007[2] and decided to move permanently to Walford from Ibiza where they ran a bar together.[3] Roxy is in her thirties,[4] and the younger of the two sisters.[1] She is described as the fire, as opposed to Ronnie's ice.[1] Both sisters have been described as glamorous, and have been compared to the Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie. Janus has noted that it is no coincidence that the sisters are named Ronnie and Roxy. She also describes the sisters as "co-dependent and dysfunctional", as well as "chilling, dark and absolutely in touch with what the other is doing".[5]

Arrival in Walford
Roxy arrived in Walford with her sister, Ronnie, for her cousin Phil's wedding to Stella Crawford, although they arrived late. Ronnie and Roxy entered The Vic, hoping to surprise everyone, however no one really seemed to notice them, or realise who they were. The sisters were unaware of the fact that the punters had just found out about Stella's death. Roxy started flirting with Deano, commenting "he's pretty, but dumb". Ronnie and Roxy's aunt, Peggy was furious at what Stella had done to the family and took down the party decorations in a fit of rage, which Ronnie and Roxy helped her with. They then made a meal to cheer up Phil's son Ben, who had been abused by Stella prior to her death. Peggy decided that she, Phil and Ben needed to get away, and left Roxy and Ronnie in charge of the Queen Vic. Barmaid Shirley Carter was angry that she had not been left in charge, so whilst Roxy and Ronnie spent a night out, Shirley had a party and when the girls got back in the morning they were left to clear up the mess. Roxy then dumped a bag of rubbish outside the Vic and asked her second cousin Billy to get rid of it. Billy then dumped it outside the house of Ian Beale, sparking a feud between Ian and the sisters. Ronnie and Roxy later set mice free in Ian's café, and Ian stole the bust of Queen Victoria from the pub, which the sisters stole back, overhearing Ian and his wife Jane having sex. Roxy later saw Jay Brown spraying graffiti on the Vic. She chased after him but hurt her foot. Jay's father Jase bandaged her foot. However, she was unaware of the fact that he was Jay's father. When she saw Jay and learned the truth about father and son, she warned Jay to stay away. Jase punished Jay by giving Roxy the wheel of his bicycle, to keep behind the bar of the Vic until she felt Jay had been duly punished.
Damian
On 27 August her fiancé Damian (who was a rich investor and club owner in Ibiza), turned up at the Vic: Roxy was speechless. She had already told Ronnie that she wanted to dump him, stating that she 'knew what he was doing with those waitresses'. After Damian brought Roxy an expensive diamond necklace, she started to rethink whether to dump him. Ronnie talked her out of it, telling her that he was only going to carry on cheating on her, and that there was no point marrying someone for their money. Roxy and Damian then retreated upstairs, Roxy planning to dump him. But just as she was going to, Roxy ran to the bathroom and was sick, after having got food poisoning from Ian Beale's fish and chips. Ronnie then started scheming to get Damian to leave Roxy alone and go back to Ibiza. Ronnie blackmailed Ian Beale (who's 13-year-old daughter Lucy Beale had battered out-of-date fish, which Roxy had eaten, to get revenge on her father for ruining her relationship with 18-year-old Craig Dixon) into pretending he was having an affair with Roxy and that she was pregnant with his baby. Damian then went back to Ibiza.
Scarlet
In October 2007, Ronnie and Roxy had their hearts set on buying Scarlet Nightclub together. They put an offer into the club, but someone else had put in a higher offer. The girls needed money to get the club, so they asked Peggy to help them. However, Peggy revealed she was £40,000 in debt. Roxy was furious as she thought their dreams of owning a bar were dashed. She later calmed down though. Damien reappeared and told Ronnie that Roxy had lost the baby, but Ronnie couldn't understand what he was talking about. Damien found Roxy pretending to cry on the bed and Ronnie then realised that Roxy had pretended to have a miscarriage with her pretend baby. Roxy told Ronnie, she was only dating Damien so she could keep him sweet so they could get their money out of their bar that they share with Damien. After Damien went back to Ibiza and gave Roxy the money, she sold her engagement ring for £5,000 and bought herself a Suzuki Vitara and a Boxer puppy called Albert.
Attack
When a group of thugs who used to be Jase's friends burst into the Queen Vic with hammers and baseball bats, smashing up the pub and looking for Jase so that they could beat him up for refusing to continue to be part of their group, Roxy gave the thugs as good a fight as they gave her and the other Albert Square residents. She wielded a sledgehammer from under the counter and threw a bottle in the face of one of the thugs, and later she responded with sarcasm to the thugs' question of where Jase was, leading the more tactful Ronnie to tell her to shut up.
R & R
After Ronnie had made a secret deal with Jack Branning, her admirer, to co-own the Scarlet night club with Jack secretly having the bigger share in the club, both Roxy and Peggy were delighted. Jack then left Walford and Ronnie thought he had gone for good. Roxy then proceeded to help her sister organise the opening of the club, now renamed R&R, the initials standing for Ronnie and Roxy. She took Ronnie to hospital against her wishes after she sprained her arm in a fall, and slapped her across the face as she sat on the ground clutching her sprained arm, saying she'd seen that sort of thing done in the movies. Roxy flirted with a young male doctor to get her sister to the front of the queue, and invited him to R&R's opening night. She also helped to interview potential staff for the club, but was more interested in the men's sex appeal and the women's preference of house over garage music than their experience with bar work. Roxy also served as the club's DJ on the opening night, and was surprised but not put off when Jack returned to Walford on a permanent basis.
Roxy finds out
Jack then proceeded to change the opening time of R&R from 10.00pm to 7.00pm, putting the club in direct competition with the Vic, which normally opened at that earlier time. Roxy and Peggy were outraged, thinking that it was Ronnie's decision, and with Phil (recently back from his holiday in Portugal) they went to the club and confronted Ronnie. She confirmed their worst fears, that she had decided to change the opening time of the club, but then Jack interrupted the meeting and informed the rest of the Mitchells that it was his decision. Jack then spilled the beans to a confused Roxy, Peggy and Phil, telling them that he co-owned the club with Ronnie, and that it was not really the Mitchell's club at all. Roxy and Peggy looked shocked, while Phil glared at Jack, having earlier been introduced to him and taking an instant disliking to him. Jack left the Mitchells to sort out their own problems. Phil realised that something was wrong, as Ronnie and Roxy had enough money from the sale of their club in Ibiza to be able to buy the Scarlet night club, and Peggy was forced to tell him that the money had been spent on clearing her debts. Phil and Peggy then went back to the Vic to discuss the relevation of her now-cleared debts, while Ronnie and Roxy remained at the club. Roxy was furious at Ronnie for not letting her help in the purchase of the club, while Ronnie was furious at Roxy for buying the car and the puppy with the majority of the cash she got from the sale of her engagement ring, giving Ronnie just £500 towards the club. The argument soon turned personal, with Ronnie accusing Roxy of being selfish and always relying on her sister to bail her out of trouble, and Roxy accusing Ronnie of being cold and not allowing herself to trust or get close to anyone. Ronnie immediately went cold as soon as Roxy mentioned how Ronnie had scarred her chin with a piece of glass when they were children, presumably in a fight between the two of them. Ronnie was about to leave to carry on running the club, when Roxy mentioned how Ronnie had lost someone very close to her. Immediately, Ronnie's icy demeanour broke and she furiously flung Roxy against the desk, telling her never to speak of that incident again. Roxy then left the office, and on the way out of the club and onto the streets, she burst into tears. Roxy then went to Jase's flat, flirted with him and then had sex with him to make herself feel better. Ronnie returned to the Vic and poured herself a drink, before pouring one for Roxy too. At about 3.15 in the morning, Roxy returned to the Vic, and Ronnie offered her a drink to make up for the events of earlier that night. Roxy declined to do so, telling Ronnie that she was now looking out entirely for herself, and would not be relying on Ronnie in the future. Having kissed Jase on the doorstep earlier that night, Roxy also made an enemy in Dawn Swann, who had witnessed them kissing from across the road as she arrived for her second date with Jase. The first date had been interrupted by the arrival of the thugs who used to be Jase's friends, and Dawn was giving Jase a second chance, which Roxy had unintentionally ruined by kissing him as Dawn looked on. Whether or not Dawn and Roxy will clash over their shared interest in Jase remains to be seen.
Fallout with Ronnie
With the two sisters hardly looking at or speaking to each other over the next couple of days, Phil decided to take matters into his own hands and resolve their differences, supported in this decision by Peggy, who was concerned about Ronnie and Roxy. Phil offered to pay Jack the same amount of money that he had paid for the club, so that it would belong entirely to the Mitchells, and threw Jack's offer to be friends back in his face, telling him that he didn't like him because he had interfered with Phil's family. Ronnie had also decided to move out of the Vic and find a place of her own, so that she could get her head together and decide what to do next, and Roxy wasn't very pleased despite their falling out before. Jack said he would think about the offer, but having spoken to Ronnie later on, he returned the cheque to Phil at the Vic, declining to accept the offer. When Phil's back was turned as he served a customer, Jack sneaked upstairs and spoke to Roxy, urging her to make up with her sister to end the hostility between them and get them focused on running the club again. Roxy acted on his words and made up with Ronnie back at the club, accepting the drink that Ronnie had offered her at the Vic. Ronnie then decided to move back into the Vic, although the feud between Jack and Phil was far from over, with the two of them staring at each other from across the Square.
