CHRISTMAS ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE When Blair’s father, Harold, comes home for the holidays with an unexpected guest -- his boyfriend, Roman -- Blair finds it difficult to hide her disappointment and hatches a plan to get rid of Roman for good. Jenny and Vanessa help Serena plan the best Christmas surprise ever for Dan, who may have a surprise of his own in mind for Serena. Rufus refuses to remain the understanding husband any longer after Alison’s former lover calls the house. Kelly Rutherford also stars.
Plot Summary
Blair's father, Harold Waldorf, goes back to New York to spend Christmas with Blair. However, he brings his lover Roman with him. Blair feels that her father may love Roman more than her,so she tries to sabotage their relationship by tripping Roman on the ice-skating rink and on the eve of the Christmas party, she asks Roman's old flame to drop by, but she was found out by her mother, who tells her father that all Blair wanted was her dad for Christmas. Eventually, Blair and her father reconcile, and Blair makes her peace with Roman. Because flights were delayed on Christmas morning, they all spent Christmas morning together. Meanwhile, Blair struggles with the fact that Chuck might disclose the details of their affair to someone, and that Nate might find out about it. In the end, she sees that Nate was with Chuck in Monaco. Rufus discovers a card that Alex sent Allison, asking her to meet him. Rufus makes the meeting instead and confronts him. Both he and Allison decides that it would be best for the both of them if they split back up and she went back to Hudson. He calls Lily and awkwardly wishes her Merry Christmas, and since she is under the impression that he is still with his wife she makes up a story about going away with Bart Bass for Christmas. In actuality, Rufus finds out that she stayed home from Dan (after Lily helps him sneak in a Christmas tree for Serena into the hotel). He then goes Christmas morning to the hotel and calls her just as Bart is there and begins proposing. It closes without showing her response. Serena wants to get Dan a perfect Christmas present, but was beaten to it by Vanessa, who sent his short story to the New Yorker. Serena and Dan make a deal that they should both get each other presents under fifty dollars. Serena, after failing to find a present under the amount, asks Vanessa for help. She does, and they proceed to make fake snow for Dan. This is because Dan, in the beginning, complains that "there is no snow in New York City!" During that time, Dan and Serena have sex. Dan, on the other hand, gets Serena a real Christmas tree. Chuck and Nate do not make an appearance this episode, although there are references to them both.
