Roger Earl Mosley (born December 18, 1938 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actor best known for his role as the helicopter pilot Theodore "T.C." Calvin on the long running television series, Magnum, P.I., which starred Tom Selleck as the title character.

Early life

Mosley grew up in the Imperial Courts project in Watts, one of the most dangerous parts of the inner city. He lives with Toni Laudermick and their daughter and has two other children born out of wedlock. In 1974, he founded the Watts Repertory Company. Mosley has a total of five children.

Career

Mosley's most prominent film role was his 1976 starring turn as the title character in Leadbelly, directed by Gordon Parks. He has guest starred on shows such as Starsky and Hutch, Kojak and Baretta and had a role in Roots: The Next Generation. He also made a memorable appearance in the 1973 film The Mack as the militant brother of the main character Goldie. However, he is probably best remembered for his role as helicopter pilot Theodore "T.C." Calvin on the Magnum, P.I. television series. Mosley is a member and Director of the Director's Guild of America and a member of the Writer's Guild of America and the Screen Actor's Guild. He has written and directed for television, film and stage. He has also produced and directed music videos and commercials. He was among the earliest African-American directors in the television field.

Trivia

Mosley is known as a golfing buddy of O.J. Simpson. As shown in the title footage for "Magnum," Mosley is left-handed.
