Richland Middle School (formerly called Richland Jr. High School) was established in 1955. It recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary during the 2005-2006 school year. It is located in Richland Hills, TX. The school mascot is the Richland Rams, & proudly displays purple & white as its school colors. RMS hosts grades 6-8.

Athletics

RMS offers a wide variety of sports for 7th & 8th graders to take part in. For boys, options are Football,Basketball,Track & Field, and/or Cross Country. For girls, options are Volleyball,Basketball, Track & Field, & Cross Country. There is also an off-season program if the student does not wish to participate in the current sport being played, which consists of running, agilities, weights, & preparation for the next sport. However, athletes are required to participate in at least 1 fall sport (Football/Volleyball or Basketball) & 1 spring sport (Track & Field or Cross Country). 7th Graders arrive for practice @ 7 AM, while 8th Grade practices in the afternoon. (The 7th Grade off-season program does not begin until 8 AM.) The Athletics Department is headed by Chad Keener.

Band

Richland Middle School has 3 bands: The Beginner Band, The Concert Band, & The Honor Winds Band.

Beginner Band

The RMS Beginner Band consists of 6th graders & 7th graders who have joined the band for the first time. The Beginner Band is taught by Gary Barnard & Matthew Cho. This band performs only a few concerts, but still travels just like the other 2 bands. (Just not as much)

Concert Band

This band consists primarily of 7th graders, & is directed by Gary Barnard. This band performs more concerts & performs at UIL. (During the 2006-2007 school year, there were no French Horns in this band.) The Concert Band also accompanies the Honor Winds Band at the 8th Grade Fall Rally.

Honor Winds/Symphonic Band

The Honor Winds Band (also called Symphonic Band) consists of 8th Graders & 7th Graders with advanced playing abilities, & is directed mainly by Matthew Cho. This band performs the most concerts & also performs at UIL & regional competitions.
