Richard Leigh (Born 1951 in Washington, D.C.) is an American country music songwriter. In 1978 he received a Grammy Award for "Best Country Song" for "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" (it was nominated in both pop and country categories and reached number one on both charts). Leigh was raised in Virginia, and currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1994 Leigh was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Foundation Hall of Fame. Crystal Gayle, Billy Dean, Mickey Gilley, Kathy Mattea, Reba McEntire, Steve Wariner, Don Williams are all prominent singers who have brought Richard's songs to number one on the charts over the years. In 1999 the Dixie Chicks recorded Leigh's "Cold Day in July" for their album Fly. In 2002 Richard Leigh released “Black Tie”, which was his first full CD release where he performed as singer and songwriter. All songs were cowritten with Layng Martine Jr. (except “The Barter Theatre Song” which was just written by Richard Leigh). The CD contains him recording some of his classics like “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” along with new material. In 2004 Richard released “Eiffel Tower Days,” which was another release of him playing his own songs. “Eiffel Tower Days” contains his 1978 hit “Don’t it Make my Brown Eyes Blue”. In 2006 Richard released another full album of him playing guitar and singing new songs entitled "King of Cry" “Black Tie,” “Eiffel Tower Days” and "King of Cry" are available from the "Online Home of Richard Leigh"[1]
