Richard Darwin Keynes CBE FRS (born 14 August 1919) is a British physiologist. Keynes (pronounced "Canes") was born in London, the eldest son of Geoffrey Keynes, and thus the nephew of the economist John Maynard Keynes. His mother, Elizabeth (née Darwin) was the daughter of the astronomer George Howard Darwin and the granddaughter of Charles Darwin. His brothers are Quentin, Milo and Stephen (see also Darwin — Wedgwood family). Keynes was educated at Oundle School and Trinity College, Cambridge In 1945 he married Anne Pinsent Adrian, the elder daughter of Edgar Douglas Adrian, 1st Baron Adrian and Dame Hester Agnes Adrian, DBE. They had four sons (and one son deceased), including Simon Keynes (born 1952), Randal Keynes and Roger Keynes.
