Rexair LLC is an American manufacturer of vacuum cleaners and is currently based in Troy, Michigan. The company was founded in 1929 by Leslie H. Green, who marketed a bagless vacuum cleaner designed by John W Newcombe. In 1936, the company introduced a vacuum cleaner with a water filtration system, a feature that would become the focus of Rexair's marketing. The "Rainbow" series of vacuums was introduced in 1955 and became the company's flagship product. In 1959, the company was purchased by businessman J.V. (Sandy) Sanders, who restructured the company to focus on direct marketing of their products via independently owned distributors. This system, known as "The Rainbow Opportunity", still remains to this date. Direct marketing of vacuum cleaners is often associated with unsolicited door-to-door sales; although the company claims that in home demonstrations are now by appointment only. Sandy was one of the top Rainbow salesmen several years in a row before becoming the president of Rexair. [1]
