The Republic of Alba (Italian: Repubblica di Alba) was a French client republic proclaimed on 25 April 1796, in Alba, northern Italy. It covered the area of Piedmont. It ceased to exist on 19 April 1801, when it was annexed by France. The flag of the Republic of Alba was designed by Juan Antonio Ranza who said that the blue and red were for France and the orange is devoted to the tree of the Piedmont's shield. The flag existed in both horizontal and vertical tricolour versions.
